How to use it

1

Paste your text

Type or paste the content you want to hash.

2

Compare the digests

All five algorithms are computed at once; copy the one you need.

3

Verify a value

Paste an existing digest into the compare field to check whether it matches.

Why use this tool

Five algorithms in one view

MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512 side by side.

Runs in your browser

Web Crypto handles SHA while MD5 is computed locally in JavaScript.

Handles Unicode

Text is UTF-8 encoded before hashing, so Chinese and emoji produce stable digests.

Frequently asked questions

Is MD5 secure?
No. MD5 and SHA-1 are broken for collision resistance and should not be used for signatures or passwords. Use SHA-256 or better.
Can I use this for passwords?
No. Raw hashes are not password storage. Use a dedicated password hashing function such as Argon2, bcrypt or scrypt.
Why do I get a different hash than another site?
Check the input encoding and whether a newline was included. This tool hashes the text exactly as entered.
What is a hash used for?
Checksums, cache keys, content addressing and integrity checks. A hash is one-way and cannot be reversed.
Does the tool upload my text?
No. All hashing happens in your browser using the Web Crypto API and a local MD5 implementation.
