How are Chinese characters counted?
Each CJK character counts as one word and is also reported separately, which matches how Chinese word counts are usually quoted.
Do spaces count as characters?
The main character count includes spaces. A second figure shows characters without whitespace.
How is reading time calculated?
The estimate combines 200 English words per minute and 300 Chinese characters per minute, rounded up to the nearest minute.
Does punctuation count?
Punctuation counts as characters, but not as words. Sentences are detected from common English and Chinese sentence-ending marks.
Is my text uploaded?
No. All counting happens in your browser and the text is never sent to a server.
