Frequently asked questions
How is the time difference calculated?
The converter reads the UTC offset of each city for the date you entered, then applies the difference. Because the offset is date-aware, daylight saving changes are included automatically.
Why does the difference change in spring and autumn?
Regions that observe daylight saving time move their clocks forward by one hour in spring and back in autumn. If only one of the two cities switches, the gap between them changes by an hour.
Does it work for past and future dates?
Yes. Your browser ships a time zone database with historical and future rules, so conversions work for dates years away. Very old or very new dates may follow the latest published rules.
What about cities with a 30 or 45 minute offset?
They are supported. Mumbai is UTC+5:30, for example, and the converter shows minute-level differences when the gap is not a whole number of hours.
Is my input sent to a server?
No. The city list and the time zone database are part of the page and your browser, so nothing leaves your device.
